Low Pop Server + Auction House = QQ

Phaser is level 69 and I still need at least 250g to get my flying mount and buy my spells at 70. I really hate the Alliance side AH on TFC. Several small markets have completely dried up, and I am probably going to have to sell enchanting mats to get enough gold for dinging 70. If I liquidated a bunch of stuff sitting in my bank, then I would probably have enough gold. Of course, I would be putting a halt to leveling my professions.

Enchanting is a huge waste of gold, but it always has been. Eventually I will be able to make a decent living off DE'n greenies, but that time is not now. My biggest problem with the profession is the need to sit in IF and spam the trade channel to sell enchantments. If Blizz reworks enchanting, then they really need to change how enchantments are applied to gear. It would be wonderful if I could just create a few scrolls or something and put them up on the AH. I can then enjoy playing the game, and not sitting in a major city.

Tailoring should be a nice little money maker. Everyone needs bags right? Well for a short time after the expansion came out, I made a small fortune off selling 16 slot bags. Then the market crashed. The price of netherweave went up to 6 or 7 gold per stack, while the price of the bags dropped from 15g to 8 or 9g. It became pointless to make bags because the mats where almost worth more than the bags. Anyone that sells 18 slotters on my server is an idiot. A conservative price check had the bag selling for about 50-60% of the market value of the mats.

Should I unload my mats on the AH? That is the question I must answer. Eventually Enchanting will bring in the cash needed for my epic flying mount, but that day is still pretty far off. I need to get a few more points in Tailoring to start making special cloth. Another money sink to worry about. I'll probably quest my way to 70, so I can avoid losing money in PUG instance runs (yes, you can lose money if you wipe enough). When I get close, I'll unload the mats needed to put me over the top.

The whole situation just make me sad. When I check the AH on my Horde Paladin, there is lots of stuff selling for decent prices. There is enough competition to keep prices in check, and someone can easily make some gold. The economy on TFC isn't large enough for much competition over prices. If you need mats, then you pay a steep price. Then you take a lose if you decided to try crafting anything.

My main basically punted blacksmithing because the primary mats (ore) are now needed by three primary professions, and at 272 I need at least 8x Thorium bar for the lowest-cost skill up, but the ore nodes only yield 1-4 each. And there's no Thorium in Outland...
So my mining is over 360, and I have several stacks of Fel Iron bars and ore, and a smaller amount of Adamantine.

Eventually the question may be whether to sell the ore, or to save it for my Engineer and Jewel-crafting alts. My main is only 64 with ~350 gold, and needs epic mount training still (I've sent a lot of gold down to alts in the past). I'm in no great rush to an epic mount, but I'd like to get it soon enough to start saving in hopes of a realistic shot at flying mount at 70 (without a big post-70 grind).

Right now my 20-slot mining bag isn't full, and I send my tailor buddy stacks and stacks of Netherweave and he sends back 16-slot bags, so bag slots to save the ore are not a problem (yet). So I'm just saving the ore for now, with the only other question being whether I will have the space to save the higher ore as ore (so it could be prospected) or turn it to bars, which at 2x ore per 1 bar will cut slot needs in half.

I'm cringing over the though of completing the last 15 to 18 points for tailoring and enchanting. The mats needed are insane! And when I get those kind of mats, the last thing I want to do is to create a cloth item that probably won't even sell, when selling the mats would net a profit.

I don't have anything even moderately low in cost that I can make to level up these last few points in Enchanting or Tailoring. I think I'm going to have to adopt the behavior of farm a set of mats to make something at a loss but get a single skill point, then the next set of comps goes on AH for profit - wash, rinse and repeat. :-(

I made 250g the first night I hit 70 just from finishing up a bunch of quests. 11-22g per quest turn in.

Don't fret, gold flows.

Hmm... maybe low pop servers just suck. My two 70 Hordes on Arthas are doing quite well (well, were... haven't played in 2 weeks). Enchanting and Tailoring on my Lock. Herb & Mining on my Pally. If I were you I'd just sell the crap in your bank to get your flyer. Then when you run instances you can snatch up some greens and DE them to get the mats back.

Then again... I never had an issue farming gold... Spent 1000s on tailoring and enchanting... and got it back almost as soon as I maxed out the the skills. WOOT.
